The Golden Sayings of Epictetus

53 short and practical passages about Stoic Philosophy. So much better than Discourses. I intend to make reading and re-reading this book part of my daily reading routine (one passage a day).

Explaining Postmodernism

Explaining Postmodernism

Hicks provides a well-argued and well-researched investigation into Post-Modernism. He follows Post-Modernism roots from Foucault, Derrida, Rorty, Heidigger, Nietzsche, Rousseau, and Kant as a response to the Enlightenment and eventually liberal democracy.

The Evolution of Everything: How New Ideas Emerge

The Evolution of Everything

I am slowly evolving into a Darwinist, or an evolutionist as a way of seeing and being in the world. It makes sense regarding how the world works and suits my inherent anti-authoritarian philosophy/psychology.

The Road to Wigan Pier

The Road to Wigan Pier

This book hit a chord. 80 years old, as relevant to the social and political milieu we find ourselves in. Orwell (like me) admired the goals of socialism but was appalled by the socialists.

The Prince

The Prince – Niccolo Machiavelli

I have finally read “The Prince”. It has been referenced in a lot of the work I have been consuming. The time had come to learn about what it is to be Machiavellian.

Poor Charlie’s Almanack: The Wit and Wisdom of Charles T Munger

Poor Charlie’s Almanack

I am still trying to figure out how to be in the world. Charles Munger (Warren Buffet’s silent business partner) gives an account of what he believes made him and Buffet so successful in business (and life). Contained in the book are the importance of good ethics and the importance of arming yourself with tools of thinking. The method giving his speaking notes from 11 speeches he gave throughout his career.

12 Rules for Life: An Antidote for Chaos

12 Rules for Life

Those who agree with Jordan Peterson describe his work as basic common sense; those who disagree describe him as a stupid person’s smart person. I am a fan, and I hope I am not stupid. I have spent a lot of time this year listening to his University Lectures. What he says seems right to me regarding the reality of living a good life.

The Discourses

The Discourses – Epictetus

It took me six months to get through this one chapter at a time as part of my reading the Ancient Stoics projects. Hard work!!! I would rather recommend the work of William B Irvine or Ryan Holiday to those that are just starting their own journey into Stoic Philosophy.

The Barefoot Investor

The Barefoot Investor

This book assumes you know nothing about how to accumulate and manage wealth, and is written at a beginner reader’s level. It takes care to make the points slowly and spends a lot of time chewing the cud with anecdotes supporting his premises.
